Tourism

Famous for its sunshine and beaches, the beautiful seaside community of White Rock/South Surrey – also known as the Semiahmoo peninsula – is located in the Southwest corner of the Lower Mainland, less than two miles from the Peace Arch border crossing off of Hwy. 99.

Peninsula visitors are treated not only to the sun, sand and ocean breeze of its beautiful beaches, but also the many lush nature trails and parks, first-class restaurants, trendy boutiques and unique shopping districts. The peninsula’s warm hospitality and natural surroundings–both during the summer and winter months–make it a most livable area and ideal year-round vacation spot.

At the centre of the peninsula is the City of White Rock, an 8-square-kilometre stretch of seaside heaven along Semiahmoo Bay. Here, visitors can enjoy a stroll along the White Rock oceanfront promenade and the historic pier while taking in the breathtaking view of the Bay, San Juan Islands and majestic Mt. Baker. Discover the area’s robust history at the Historic Train Station and Museum and enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the many colourful sidewalk restaurants and bistros. A must-see is the white rock, a 486-tonne glacial deposit from the Coast Range, from which the city takes its name. Legend has it that after being denied marriage to his mortal sweetheart, the son of a Sea God hurled the white rock across the Gulf of Georgia saying, “Where this rock lands, there we will make our home.”

You’ll definitely need more than a day to take in the many wonderful sights, sounds and attractions the peninsula has to offer. Surrounding the quaint City of White Rock sits the community of South Surrey. After a visit to its beautiful Crescent Beach area and charming dining hot spots, see how the early settlers lived with a stop at the historic 1894 Victorian farmhouse at Stewart Farm. Minutes away are many fine golf courses, bird watching opportunities and hiking and bike trails.

Whether it’s a quiet vacation or one full of adventure, let our knowledgeable on-site BC Tourism Travel Counsellors help you plan the perfect holiday. The peninsula awaits you.
