Paul Clarke - VICE PRESIDENT


paulclarke.jpgPaul Clarke is the owner and manager of MPB Construction, White Rock and South Surrey's leading renovator since 1989.

MPB employees 15 staff at it's Sunnyside Mall location and completes turn-key renovations from concept to design to reality for residential and commercial customers.

MPB has been a finalist for the Chamber's Business Excellence awards in 2005 and 2006.
Paul holds an Honors degree in Business Administration and a MBA. He has over 35 years corporate and entrepreneurial experience in Canada and the U.S.

Paul and his wife Ellie are pleased to call White Rock their home and be part of this great community. Their son Jeff is completing his PHD studies at SFU and their daughter Leigh has recently joined MPB in a sales and design capacity.

Paul has served on several Boards of Directors and looks forward to helping plan the future strategies and efforts of the Chamber.


Doug Robinson - TREASURER

As an Associate, Doug Robinson takes a comprehensive approach to wealth management. He sees his role as helping people make well-informed decisions about their investments and retirement plans providing them with greater financial independence, peace of mind, and security.

With over 35 years of experience in the financial industry, Doug has a wealth of knowledge to help his clients protect and grow their hard-earned assets. Many of those clients have experienced major life changes including retirement, divorce or the loss of a spouse.

Doug graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BA in Political Science and Economics in 1967. Doug continues his education with an ongoing program of courses in the insurance and financial planning field.
Doug values education and offers ongoing seminars.

Doug Robinson is duly licensed under the Securities Act & Regulations of British Columbia for the sale of Mutual Funds and under the Financial Institutions Act of B.C. for Insurance products.


Shannon Saunders- SECRETARY

shannon.jpgShannon Saunders is the Marketing Manager at The Peninsula Resort Retirement Living, which is owned and operated by Chartwell Senior Housing Reit, Canada's largest senior housing provider.
 
Shannon is very passionate about seniors and has worked in the industry for the past 10 years.
 
She was an integral team member that helped to bring three retirement communities to their successful openings.
 
Shannon is both delighted and honored to represent the White Rock/South Surrey Chamber of Commerce. 



Terry Parr - PAST PRESIDENT

terryparr.jpgTerry Parr has over 35 years business experience covering such diverse backgrounds as heavy construction, contract food service and career counselling. For the past 10 years, Terry has owned and operated a sign and printing business in White Rock. A resident of South Surrey since 1975, Terry is proud to serve as a Director of the White Rock & South Surrey Chamber of Commerce and looks forward to making it an even greater force in our business community.



 


DIRECTORS

 Bernard Abelson - DIRECTOR

bernard abelson.jpgBernard Abelson comes from a variety of career backgrounds. He is a registered professional civil engineer here in Canada having relocated to South Surrey from South Africa in January 2008 with his wife Kay and their two children. Besides his engineering background, Bernard was both the marketing manager and then operations manager of an international industrial equipment company in Johannesburg. He has also built a home-based-business with Herbalife, which business he still works on part-time as he pursues his first passion in engineering. Bernard hopes to bring his collective experience to the Chamber and add value wherever he can. He is specifically interested in matters relating to traffic and transportation that can contribute to the growth of business opportunities for Chamber members and the region.
 


Gerry Gainford- DIRECTOR

gerrygainford.jpgGerry Gainford is an IT consultant with TekBusters.ca, a White Rock based complete IT solutions firm. He moved from Ireland to White Rock in 2008 and set up supporting homes and businesses with their IT needs. With a BSc in Computer Applications, certification from Microsoft, Cisco, EMC, Institute of Engineers of Ireland and over 10 years of IT experience Gerry is very excited about the possibilities here in the lower mainland.

Gerry is very happy to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce and is looking forward to the coming 2 years as a director.

 


Zarina Lalji - DIRECTOR

zarinalalji.jpgZarina Lalji, M.Ed., has extensive experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary projects in the fields of business, education and community. She comes from a strong business, marketing and education background and has managed a number of multi-national accounts and educational organizations. As well, Zarina has many years of experience in non-profit and community organizations having led key changes within the institutions.
   

She operates a business in White Rock - Visitors Guide Publications Inc., recently  nominated for the WRSS Chamber of Commerce 2007 Business Excellence Award (1-7 category).

She is involved in the community serving on various committees: Spirit of BC Committee, Economic Development Committee, City of White Rock, WRSS Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, City of White Rock Branding Committee. She has served on the Spirit of Sea Festival as volunteer chair and the BIA Steering Committee VGP Inc. is a member of the WRSS Chamber of Commerce and the Surrey Board of Trade.


Stephen Lott - DIRECTOR

stephenlott.jpgStephen moved to Canada from England in June 2004 and started his business, Computer Trouble Shooters, three months later, doing small residential jobs and expanding into the business market. In late 2005 he expanded into Surrey, and 2007 expanded the business into Langley. Computer Trouble Shooters now serves some 50 businesses in the local area, with 3 in Vancouver plus they hold the contract for Starbucks in the Fraser Valley. In three years Computer Trouble Shooters has gone from a home based business to a medium sized office based business and have brought on partners to help the business expand.

 

 


Erin McDonald - DIRECTOR

erin mcdonald.jpgErin McDonald became a director of the White Rock/ South Surrey Chamber of Commerce in 2010. She is very proud to have lived and worked in the White Rock/ South Surrey area for over 5 years. Erin graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2009, with a major in Political Science and successfully completed a Business Leadership Program offered through Thompson Rivers University the previous year.  Erin has been employed at The Peace Arch News for 5 years and is passionate about her job as an Advertising and Marketing Sales Consultant. In addition, she enjoys volunteering her time at Peace Arch Hospital Foundation fundraiser events and is an active member at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Erin looks forward to working with the business community in her role as a new chamber director.


Maria Mura - DIRECTOR

Maria.jpgMaria Mura serves as Manager of the Westminster Savings Credit Union White Rock Branch, maintaining close ties with local businesses and residents. Maria has been in the financial industry for well over 15 years and is an Honours Graduate of the BCIT Management System program and holds an Elder Planning Counsellor Designation.

 





Marty Peterson - DIRECTOR

martypeterson.jpgMarty Peterson is a licenced realtor with South Surrey's market share leader, HomeLife Benchmark Realty and specializes in residential properties in Surrey, Langley and White Rock.
Marty retired from TELUS after 34 years of diverse experience, the most recently as AVP of Corporate Sales.
 
Previous Board experience includes Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Prince George YM/YWCA, Prince George Art Gallery, delegate to the BC Chamber of Commerce and most recently, the White Rock/South Surrey Community Arts Council.

Marty is married to Gaye and they have 2 adult sons, a daughter-in-law and a grand daughter and live in South Surrey.


Sonya Sangha - DIRECTOR


sonyasangha.jpgSonya Sangha is the Assistant Manager of the Ocean Promenade Hotel, a premier Oceanfront Suites and Conference Resort in beautiful White Rock, B.C.   The Ocean Promenade Hotel prides itself on developing close relationships with the local business community and was the recipient of the Customer Excellence Award in 2005. Sonya is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce as a Director and the Chair of the Business Excellence Awards Committee. Recently completing an MBA, and with extensive experience in the Hospitality Industry, Sonya is looking forward to participating in many of the Chamber's initiatives and working with the members of this great community! 


 


Wayne Sorci - DIRECTOR


waynesorci.jpgWayne Sorci, is married and the father of 5 children, and 5 grandchildren (to date). In his spare time he served as a sports trainer in both Junior “A” Hockey and Senior Mens’ Softball for 31 years while working full-time in the automotive industry.
 
Wayne is an entrepreneur, whose expertise is in the recycling field. He is president and manager of Nu-Plastic Services, based in South Surrey, B.C. The Company transports used oil containers throughout the entire province of B.C. to the recycling plant on Annacis Island. In 1997 Wayne was proud to have been the innovator to build the first machine to recycle fluorescent tubes in Canada; it separates phosphor powder from aluminum and mercury.
 
Wayne is looking forward to meeting other business members in his community and serving his community in the capacity of a Director in the White Rock / South Surrey Chamber of Commerce.
